- an update from the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission-
No. 15 - May 31, 2005
UBUNTU - "I am what I am because of who we all are." For a more complete definition, visit Wikipedia

Greetings,

This Commission's work is about much more than a single event. The shootings of Nov. 3, 1979, and their aftermath provide a lens that helps us better understand the complex interrelationships among such issues as race, class, labor, politics and police-community relations. The more we can learn about the past and the present, the better we'll do in planning for the future.
  • We're reaching out far and wide to attract a crowd to our labor conversation next Wednesday evening, June 8. There's much to learn from the mill workers, managers, union organizers and others familiar with the area's job conditions and their evolution over the past 25-30 years. All in these constituencies are invited to join us to share their experiences, and to encourage others to do the same. For more information, contact Chelsea (275-6462).
  • Locals should tune into GCTV (Cable 8) this week for the pre-premiere of "TRC Talk," our developing cable-access talk show. Airing at 8 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday are two introductory editions featuring footage from the Commission's Swearing-In Ceremony. Special thanks to our crew of broadcast production students at N.C. A&T for editing the shows, which will be posted on our Web site soon. The official premiere will happen in July. Stay tuned!
  • This week's progress indicator: Our door-to-door outreach team has met and talked with people from more than 170 households so far.
