Greetings,

A hearty thank you, thank you, thank you to all who helped us pull it off, and all who attended our first Public Hearing! We're encouraged by the event's success and hope the local community is, too.
  • We're especially thankful to all those who gave us statements and participated as speakers in this hearing. The statement-taking phase of our work still is in full swing; we invite all others with relevant stories to tell them. Those who give statements have a chance of speaking at one of our upcoming hearings.
  • Speaking of those other hearings, mark your calendars now and please plan to attend. Note in our calendar section below that we've finalized the location of the last hearing (thanks to UNCG's American Democracy Project).
  • This week's progress indicator: Nearly 400 people attended our first public hearing. Countless others will be able to hear podcasts (courtesy of the News & Record) and view the video footage July 29-31 on Cable 8.
  • Volunteers of the Week: Two who made sure we captured the hearing for posterity - speaker/volunteer sound man Ed Whitfield, whose audio recordings the News & Record will podcast; and Mike Moore of NC A&T's TV studio, who led the wonderfully helpful team of local TV and video folk who ensured our video coverage. Thanks, Ed (and Alec) and Mike (and Bill and Laura and Gary and Jerry and George)!
Our Upcoming Events:
  • "What happened on and after Nov. 3, 1979?", second Public Hearing, 2-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, Location TBA.
  • "What does the past have to do with the present and the future?", final Public Hearing, 2-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at UNCG.
