Greetings,

While the city buzzes about the changes happening in the Greensboro Police Department, we’re staying out of the fray and keeping focused on our research of the context, causes, sequence and consequences of Nov. 3, 1979.
  • All interested community members are invited to join us at 10 a.m. next Wednesday, Jan. 25, for a news conference announcing an important new partnership. The news conference will happen in the Holgate Library at Bennett College for Women, located at 900 E. Washington St. (Enter off Washington Street and security officers will direct you to parking.) For more information, e-mail [email protected].
  • Our six-hour Commission meeting last week featured input from consultants Lisa Magarrell, who’s offered guidance from the start as part of the International Center for Transitional Justice, and Irving Joyner, an NCCU Law professor helping us understand the justice issues linked to Nov. 3, 1979. Big thanks to both.
  • We’re also sending thanks this week to Page High School social studies teacher Daryl Florance for inviting Joya, our communications director, to talk about the Commission’s work with the students of his African American history class. Thanks, too, to every student who became a part of this process by being a part of last week’s spirited dialogue.
  • Volunteer of the Week: Neubia Williams, a UNCG student looking toward law school whose volunteer work has included helping with Commission public events and summarizing statements. Thanks, Neubia!
  • This week’s progress indicator: Dr. Spoma Jovanovich of UNCG, along with student volunteers Christina Sanchez and Kristi Parker, so far has collected 365 newspaper articles helpful to the Commission’s research.
