Greetings,

Thanks going out this week to the News & Record, for making the GTRC a special project and compiling a wealth of resources in one place.
  • While our public hearings were a time for the community to listen, our upcoming Community Dialogue is a time for talking together, and we want all of Greensboro to join in the conversation. You can help by encouraging members of your club or group – civic, religious, educational, social, whatever – to register for this event.  Let us know if it would help for a staff or Commission member to speak at one of your gatherings. E-mail [email protected] or call us at 275-6462.
  • Thanks to the Greensboro Transit Authority, we’ve got free bus passes for people  interested in using public transportation to get to the Dialogue. E-mail phyllis@greensborotrc and let her know you’d like a pass when you register.
  • Emily Harwell, our research director, traveled last week to the International Center for Transitional Justice in New York, where she met with members and staff from the South African and Peruvian truth commissions to discuss strategies for her task of drafting our final report. She also met with playwright Emily Mann, author of “Greensboro: A Requiem,” who shared documents including the transcript of her interview with police informant Eddie Dawson.
  • Volunteer of the Week: Chelsea Marshall, our former public hearings coordinator whose fall semester at Smith College started before our third hearing, for which she flew back to volunteer. Thanks, Chelsea!
  • This weeks progress indicator: To date, weve distributed nearly 1,800 copies of our pamphlets 18 pages of useful information about who we are, what were doing and why. Holler if youd like one, or some to share.
