- an update from the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Commission-
No. 48 - Jan. 24, 2006

Greetings,

The central question of this Commission’s work was the title of our last public hearing: “What does the past have to do with the present and the future?” As our report-writing process forces us to delve deeply into a dark part of the past, we’re keeping the faith that we can add light to the whole city’s present and future.
  • Hope you’ll be able to join us and Dr. Johnnetta Cole tomorrow at the historic campus of Bennett College for Women, for an announcement about a partnership for the future. We invite interested community members and our media friends (details are below).
  • Graphic Designer Needed: The Commission is seeking proposals from freelance graphic designers to design the written and multimedia versions of final report. Visit our blog for more details and spread the word to anyone who might be interested.
  • Volunteer of the Week: Art Blundell, a Commission friend who – when he’s in town – can be counted on to become volunteer extraordinaire at the drop of a hat (or public hearing or pile of depositions). Thanks, Art!
  • This week’s progress indicator: In her keynote address at the Greensboro Human Relations Commission’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. memorial breakfast last week, former Greensboro Councilwoman Claudette Burroughs-White urged roughly 1,000 people in attendance not to fear the truth and reconciliation process.
